Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking a Security Team Leader to play a key role in providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors across the University. Based within the Security Operations team, you will lead operational activities during your shift, ensuring that Security Officers and the Security Control Room coordinate effectively during routine operations, and that incidents, emergencies and service requests receive a timely and coordinated response.

This is a hands-on operational leadership role responsible for coordinating security resources across the University's campuses, making decisions during incidents, and ensuring established procedures are followed. While this role does not have direct line management responsibility for Security Officers, you will provide shift leadership, coaching and guidance to team members, supporting consistent service delivery and strong operational performance.

The role offers an excellent opportunity for an experienced security professional who enjoys leading from the front, mentoring others and responding to a diverse range of situations. Comprehensive training and development are provided, including scenario-based exercises, operational training and ongoing professional development.

Key areas of focus include:

• Leading security operations during your shift and ensuring the effective coordination with the Security Control Room
• Coordinating Security Officers and resources across multiple campuses, including incident and emergency responses
• Providing shift leadership, guidance and on-the-job coaching to Security Officers and contracted security personnel
• Monitoring operational performance, reviewing incident reporting and ensuring compliance with procedures and standards
• Supporting major University events, emergency situations and operational activities across campus
• Contributing to service improvements, operational procedures and the ongoing development of security practices

This is a permanent full-time position working on a five-week roster, averaging 40 hours per week across each roster cycle. Shifts are either eight or twelve hours in length and may include day, night, and weekends.

The salary range for this role is $65,000 to $75,000 (per annum, pro-rated for part time), negotiable depending on skills and experience.

You are an experienced security professional with a strong leadership presence and the confidence to make decisions in dynamic situations. You enjoy supporting others and are comfortable taking responsibility for coordinating operations, managing incidents and ensuring high standards are maintained throughout your shift.

You have a collaborative leadership style and enjoy mentoring, coaching and supporting team members, even when you are not their formal people leader. You communicate clearly, remain calm under pressure and are committed to providing a professional service that supports the safety and wellbeing of the University community.

E rapua ana mātou | We are seeking

• At least three years' experience in a security environment, including experience in a lead, supervisory or shift leadership capacity
• A current Certificate of Approval (CoA) and Level 3 Security qualification, or progress towards Level 4
• Demonstrated experience coordinating operational teams and responding to incidents in a fast-paced environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, guide and influence others positively
• Sound judgement and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage risk and respond effectively under pressure
• Current First Aid Certificate and a full New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence
