Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity


We are seeking a Governance Officer, known internally as a University Committee Executive, to play a central role in supporting the University’s governance framework and contributing to the effective operation of its most senior decision-making committees.

This is 12-Month, Fixed-Term opportunity.


In this role, you will provide high-quality secretariat support to Council, its committees and other senior University groups. Working closely with committee chairs, senior leaders and stakeholders across the University, you will ensure governance processes are well managed, compliant and aligned with best practice. You will also contribute to governance improvement initiatives and support the ongoing development of committee capability across the University.

This is a highly collaborative role that requires strong attention to detail, sound judgement and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will have the opportunity to build strong relationships across the University while supporting decision making at the highest level.

Your responsibilities will include:


  • Providing end-to-end secretariat support, including agenda planning, paper coordination and minute taking

  • Supporting committee chairs and stakeholders to enable effective governance processes and outcomes

  • Monitoring actions and following up on committee decisions to ensure timely completion

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of governance best practice across committees

  • Building strong relationships with committee members, senior leaders and governance stakeholders

  • Supporting governance activities such as committee elections, policy register administration and system or process improvements


This is a full-time 12-Month Fixed-Term role (37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday). The salary range is $92,000 to $102,000 (per annum, pro-rated for part time).

You are an experienced governance or senior administrative professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail, judgement and relationship management are critical. You are highly organised and comfortable supporting senior leaders and committees, while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.

You take pride in producing high-quality work, communicating clearly and maintaining confidentiality and discretion. You enjoy building strong relationships and are confident navigating complex organisational environments.

E rapua ana mātou | We are seeking


  • Experience providing governance, secretariat or senior administrative support to boards, committees or other formal decision-making bodies

  • Excellent written communication skills, including report writing, minute taking and document preparation

  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities and deadlines

  • The ability to exercise sound judgement, work independently and maintain confidentiality

  • Strong stakeholder relationship management skills and the confidence to work with senior leaders and committee members

  • Excellent attention to detail, proofreading skills and a commitment to accuracy

  • A relevant degree or equivalent combination of qualifications and experience


Experience in a tertiary education environment or another large, complex organisation will be highly regarded.
