Responsibilities

Te Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity

We are seeking someone to join us as a Student Accommodation Night Support (internally known as Night Supervisor) to work rostered night shifts in our student residences. This vital role ensures our students feel safe, supported, and part of a positive community.

You will be the first point of contact for residents needing pastoral care or well-being support during the night. This isn’t a traditional security role; you’ll lead on health, safety, and security, making sure protocols are followed, emergencies are handled, and first aid is provided when needed.

When not responding to incidents or patrolling, you’ll be responsible for completing general administrative and coordination tasks.

Our Student accommodation team provides housing for over 4,500 students across a variety of accommodation styles, from first-year halls to self-catered apartments for senior students. We aim to create a safe, supportive, and enjoyable community that feels like home for our students.

For more information about this role, please refer to the full position description.

This is a part‑time, permanent position. Hours of work will vary week to week and are rostered between 11:00 pm and 9:00 am, Monday to Sunday. You’ll work an average of between 30 and 35 hours per week (up to 70 hours per fortnight). Shifts alternate weekly, and weekend work is required.

The salary range for this role is $ $55,000 to $69,000, negotiable depending on skills and experience.

Training We provide full training, including first aid, mental health event management, and basic security. This paid training will take place during regular business hours before your night shifts begin.

He kōrero mōu | About you

We’re looking for candidates who are empathetic, passionate about student well-being, and capable of handling challenging situations independently. While you’ll be working alone during shifts, remote support from the team will be available.

This role is ideal for those night shifts to fit their lifestyle, and we’ve found it to be a great fit for people with experience in pastoral care, student-focused roles, mental health services, social work, youth work, residential care or hospitality, or even those considering a career as a police officer.

E rapua ana mātou | We are seeking

  • Be available for night shifts, across Monday to Sunday, including Public Holidays.

  • Ideally, have experience providing pastoral care or support.

  • Possess strong communication skills, able to guide and support others with a gentle, non-enforcement approach.

  • Have some knowledge of security systems, CRMs, databases, and Building Health & Safety compliance (training will be provided).

  • Be physically fit (a medical test by our approved provider is required).

  • This position required successful applicants to pass NZ police vetting checks and vulnerable children’s Act requirements.
